Mission: studying biochemical processes that spark interest in new perspectives related to food, compatible with sustainable development!
Prof. Park - Tribute
The Laboratory of Food Biochemistry of the Food Science Department of FEA - UNICAMP was created by Professor Yong Kun Park, in 1974. Prof. Park was born in North Korea, completed his undergraduate and Master's degree in biochemistry at Seoul National University (UNS) in South Korea, and obtained a PhD in Food Science (1972) and a title of Associate Professor in Food Biochemistry (1976) at the School of Food Engineering - UNICAMP. He dedicated himself to scientific research, teaching, and supervising students. He was a specialist in food biochemistry, author of several articles in international journals, dedicated to the study of enzymes, the production of alternative sugars, and the biological properties of propolis. He supervised 27 master's and 22 doctoral students and most of them are now professors and researchers at Universities in Brazil or abroad, working in Food Biochemistry, Food Science, and other areas.
Throughout his career, Professor Park published 81 articles in scientific journals, 6 books, 9 book chapters and presented 110 abstracts at national and international events. His notable work entitled "Production of isomaltulose through enzymatic transformation of sucrose, using Erwinia sp D12 immobilized in sodium alginate" resulted in the first patent licensing contract by the Unicamp Innovation Agency (INOVA), formalized in 2002. Professor Park Supervised 27 master's and 22 doctoral students and most of his supervisees are professors at Universities in Brazil or abroad, working in Teaching and Research in Food Biochemistry, Food Science, among other areas.
We would like to express our gratitude and recognition to the great professional that Prof. Yong Park was.
